Welcome

PCIC Family and Friends,

On behalf of the Petroleum and Chemical Industry Committee, the 2020 Local Conference Committee would like to thank you for visiting this website to get the latest information about the upcoming PCIC conference. As we are all getting accustomed to performing our jobs in a more isolated manor and keeping our companies running with reduced exposure and increased personal health safety, the 2020 local Committee is continuing to move forward with plans to host the 67th annual PCIC conference in Atlanta beginning September 14 and concluding on September 17, 2020. The conference will be held at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis Downtown hotel, which is an easy 20 minute MARTA train ride from the airport. No other transportation will be needed.

Although the official conference will not begin until Monday, September 14, API standards working groups will begin discussing hazardous area classification and motors for use in petroleum applications beginning on Thursday, September 10. IEEE standards working groups will be discussing standards that describe motors, vfds, trace heating systems and wiring systems beginning on Saturday, September 12. As you will hear many times throughout the conference, getting involved with the standards writing process is one of the best ways of getting involved in PCIC, learning from the industry’s leaders and contributing to the ongoing improvement of equipment standards. We encourage you to come early and learn more about how you can contribute to the standards that you may already be using.

We would also like to welcome your guests to join you for this time in Atlanta. While your guests will have plenty to see and do in the immediate downtown area on their own, guest tours of the surrounding area will begin on Saturday, September 12 prior to the opening of the conference. Local restaurants and shopping are within easy walking distance or you and your guests can take a short 10 minute ride on the Marta train to the Buckhead area and you will have access to an even larger selection of venues.

Of course, we could not have a conference without the tremendous amount of work that the authors offer. The paper writing process relies on the authors providing drafts for peer review and edits to provide the conference with the high quality presentations that the PCIC has come to be known for. Even with all of the distractions this year, we are proud say that the authors have a done a tremendous job in preparing over 54 papers for presentation this year. The paper presentations will begin Monday morning, September 14 and will continue through Wednesday, September 16. Even if you are not an author this year, you can still be a part of the paper process by providing additional feedback to PCIC and the authors through the local conference App that you will be able to access through your personal devices. In addition, the papers will also be available for download through the local conference App.

In addition to all of the other learning opportunities that occur during the conference, eight 4-hour tutorials are also offered to conference attendees. These tutorials will begin Thursday , September 17 in the morning and afternoon. These tutorials will be presented by industry leaders covering various topics applied in the petroleum and chemical industries. If you are a first time attendee to the PCIC conference, the fee for these tutorials will be reduced to a cost of $50. For those of you that use the learning opportunities that the PCIC conference  offers to maintain their PE license, CEU’s are also offered for the standards working group meetings, the paper presentations as well as the tutorials.

Finally, the networking opportunities that occur during the conference are only limited by your involvement. From the standards working group meetings, to the luncheons and breaks and from the Conference Social to the many vendor sponsored hospitality suites that occur in the evenings, you will have the opportunity to ask your technical questions to the folks that either designed or built the equipment or have already installed it. New to the conference this year will be a Women’s Networking Breakfast on Tuesday, September 15. Don’t miss this opportunity!

We are expecting registration for the conference to open June 15 this year. Hopefully, this short delay will enable the local committee to better see the potential impacts that this pandemic will have on the conference and how to better prepare the facilities. We would kindly ask for your patience before trying to make any travel or hotel reservations until the conference registration has opened.

We know that it is difficult today to imagine a time in the future where we will once again be able to travel, meet face to face and enjoy the opportunity to network and hear about each other’s experiences over the last few months, but your Local Committee is looking forward to welcoming everyone in September. The PCIC annual conference has not returned to Atlanta for nearly 50 years and a few things have changed since 1971. We hope you take this opportunity to come to town early for the standards meetings and stick around after to explore the Atlanta area. Be assured that the Atlanta Marriott has already begun hosting small conferences and will have the necessary safety precautions in place to keep the conference attendees safe while staying at the hotel.

Please check back in to this website, Twitter, Facebook or Instagram for updated registration information as additional information becomes available.

We look forward to seeing everyone in September!!

Thank you,
Art Neubauer
